Our Families

“Family Promise to me was like coming up for fresh air when I was drowning in the world around me. I was in a situation that was consuming my children and I whole…mentally, physically, emotionally & on the brink of hopelessness. And just when I thought I couldn’t go anymore, I got Christine’s call, and in that moment I was able to see a way out of this hopeless situation.

“The staff, volunteers, and churches not only provided support but the care and compassion I had all but forgotten people were capable of. I was able to let go of the fear I had and regain control of the person, the mother, the human that I was and move forward in being successful.

“I will never in a million lifetimes begin to be able to express the gratitude I have for everyone who makes Family Promise possible-but I will begin by using the tools I have learned while I was here to maintain a full and happy life my children and I deserve. Thank you to everyone for allowing me to breathe again and remind me that when all feels lost, there is light at the end of the tunnel!”

Our History – Directors Past & Present

This month’s video is a little extra long, but we hope you take a few minutes to listen to it anyway. 2 of our past directors and our current director sat down to talk about what they love about FPHCR. Check it out!

Our Stats

Over the last 15 years…

39 times, a father and mother didn’t split up.

39 times, daughters didn’t split up from their fathers.

39 times, sons didn’t split up from their mothers.

Isn’t that all worth it? We’d do it all again for another 39 families!

Matt Wagner’s “Why”

“My family and I have experienced being at risk of losing our home and I want to help others avoid that experience. I believe the best way to help families in need, not just in the short term, but in the long-term as well, is by coming alongside them and addressing not just their material needs such as jobs, transportation, etc. but addressing their mental health/emotional needs and rebuilding their sense of humanity. These things are just as important, if not more so, which is exactly what Family Promise Harrisburg Capital Region is all about.”

Stacey Coldren’s “Why”

“My why is to give back what was once given to me—to be a source of encouragement, direction, and support for families as they build a life beyond their struggles. I want every parent to feel reassured that they are not alone, and every child to know they have a safe place to grow and dream. At Family Promise HCR, we are more than a program—we are family supporting family, and I am grateful every day to be part of this mission.”

Christine Rockey’s “Why”

“I love Family Promise HCR because it allows me to work with people I admire, doing work I love, for a community I value.

“Homelessness is not esoteric, and people struggling with poverty are not abstractions. Our community needs us right here and now, and the people I work with roll up their sleeves and put the best of themselves into the mix every single day, providing support and assistance to those who reach out to us. I am proud of the work that our organization does.”

Susan Ryder’s “Why”

“I live for collaboration and connecting people to resources! At Family Promise, I get to do both through our guests, volunteers, partners, and folks who call the Day Center.”

Krissy Marshall’s “Why”

“My first ‘why’ was that I wanted a job – a job where I could make an impact and use the skills and passion God gave me.

“FPHCR has become much more than that to me. The volunteers and families have made an imprint on my heart forever. I keep coming back because I have seen hope restored in people, and I never want that to stop happening.”
