Our Families

When families move out, it is bittersweet. We miss them. We love when we get the updates though. So, here’s one from one of our favorite families!

“We are all doing good! We celebrated Tasha’s birthday yesterday (11/11) and for the first time we could buy something. She wanted new winter boots, and we had enough money to get them! We pick them up this weekend. Jada made her a book of why she is such a good mom and KK made her jewelry and a bracelet.”

Our History

Aimee Lighty was a director for a start-up FP affiliate in Texas several years prior to moving to the Harrisburg area. When we were close to opening, she was recruited by FP National to help train/mentor new director, Krissy Marshall. Check out her story!

Our Stats

What does “other family units” mean? It means any family that does not identify as a single mother, single father, or 2-parent family.

This has often included a grandmother who was a part of the household and came into shelter with the family – something they could not have done elsewhere.

Our Why

“I see myself, in providing transportation from FP to the host site, as the first domino to fall in order for the rest of the volunteers to do their parts. I enjoy getting to know the families during our ride and even while sometimes sharing a meal. I only get to know the families for a week, but when they go, it feels like losing close friends.”

Thank you, GHAR!

You can’t have beauty without a little (or a lot) of hard work.

GHAR (The Greater Harrisburg Association of Realtors) sent a team of volunteers to mulch our play area so that our kids and parents have a safe place right outside the Day Center to play.

Thank you to these dedicated volunteers! It looks amazing!

Early Holiday Miracles

Since we bought this property 8 years ago, we have been dreaming of creating a safe, beautiful play area for the kids in our program. We know that getting outside and playing in the fresh air is something that all children (and their adults) need!

We finally have the space we’ve dreamed of thanks to the dedication and gifts of several donors and volunteers. Thank you!

*We also got a permit approved for our outdoor sign! Woohoo!

Celebrating 15 Years!

On the 15th anniversary of when we first opened our doors to our very first family, we got together to celebrate all that we’ve done.

Thank you to everyone who came out and for everyone who has helped to get us where we are today!

Krissy Marshall, founding Executive Director, shared about the challenges of opening our doors but how the heart of our volunteers was always in the right place.

Chris VanHart, current Board President, shared about how many families we have served and all the things we have accomplished together.

Matt Wagner, Executive Director, shared about hopes and dreams for the next 15 years!
