Our History
“I remember a time that a 2-year-old locked himself in the upstairs of the Day Center, and we couldn’t get him to figure out how to unlock the latch. I called Chuck, and he came over with a ladder, went through a second story window, and saved the terrified little boy. Chuck is a FPHCR hero.
“Chuck is someone I could always call on when I needed something, and he would always be there with a smile on his face.”
~Krissy Marshall, founding Director
Our Statistics
“I feel safe here. I was safe where I was before here, but it’s a different type of safe here. It’s a good feeling.” ~FP guest
Safety isn’t a right, but it should be. Each person should be able to feel safe at night, should know that their children are safe in their beds. FPHCR provides that to families every night.
Families had 39,000+ nights of safe sleep!
Our “Why”
“Volunteering for Family Promise was a big step for our church. We looked at and considered what it would mean to be a FP host church for over a year. It caused all of us to step out of our comfort zone and work at being “the hands and feet of Jesus.” Not just providing money, but to become involved with persons, families who are experiencing homelessness.
“Being the lead volunteer has at times been nerve wracking, but there are times when we have had golden moments of connection with someone or a family that has brought real joy. We can make these families feel cared about, safe, and welcomed. Though there have been frustrations, there have been many moments of knowing this is where we are to be serving.”
Margie Fultz, Volunteer Leader at Mechanicsburg Church of the Brethren
