Our History
Karen served as our first-ever Treasurer. She held that position for 5 years and then served on the Board for another 4 years. She was instrumental in creating systems and policies around financial management.
Karen handled our finances with a high level of care and passion. She also volunteered, helped with fundraisers, and went above and beyond the call of duty for our families. Listen here as Karen shares her experience volunteering with FPHCR.
Our History
When we first started sheltering families in 2010, we had a lot of discussion about types of families. Many volunteers were excited by the fact that we could serve in-tact families and were anxious to provide for that need in our community.
Although sheltering in-tact families is a cornerstone of what we do, the truth is that anyone who has a child is a family. Single mothers represent the majority of families experiencing homelessness, so it makes sense that we have served many in our shelter.
We are here to help every family, every child, no matter what their family looks like.

Our “Why”
“Volunteering during our FP week is a great way to be in service to others, and providing a meal and/or enjoying that meal, is a great way to visit with the families. Our church has been blessed by all the families who have stayed with us.
“As a host church, we received detailed training, information, and support from FP staff.”
