Responsibility – for actions and the things you say and do while you are here.
Advice I would give to a family moving in would be…
Try to take the time to figure out what is best for you and your family and what you need to get back on your feet so you can be independent and be happy.

Some of the things I am most proud of accomplishing during (and after) my time in Family Promise are…
Having my own place, number one. I also learned how to budget and set money aside and not spend it. I learned to appreciate my son more, and appreciate what I have. When my sister told me about Family Promise, I bawled. I didn’t want to live in a shelter. But it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I don’t mean to be dramatic, but it is. I was looking for help, and Family Promise gave that to me.
Fun fact (favorite color, food, etc)…
I like to make people laugh.

Relax, because it is going to be a rewarding experience on a daily basis. (I could catch up on patients’ charting while my girl was playing with the volunteers.)
Some of the things I am most proud of accomplishing during (and after) my time in Family Promise are…
Being connected to the knowledgeable and friendly people we would have otherwise not met.

My favorite food for sure are tacos from the church dinners. The other fun fact is that we still are connected to the last church we stayed at (United Methodist in Camp Hill). We went there on Wednesday, had a connection dinner with the people who were volunteering for the Family Promise. They are very supportive and want to know how we spent Easter, etc. Victoria is very popular there too!

Once you’re at Family Promise, you’ve hit rock bottom, so there’s nowhere else to go but up.
Advice I would give to a family moving in would be…
Take baby steps. Do what you can while you’re at Family Promise and don’t be afraid to ask for help. And if there are kids involved, they are your number one priority. Every step you take is to better them as you better yourself.

Being able to maintain going to school for my associates degree. I never gave up things I want to do just because I found myself in a situation I had no control over.

No matter what happens, stay true to you. Don’t let something as simple as where you are (being at Family Promise) stop you from what you like to do. Your situation may seem like a mountain, but it’s just a tiny anthill once you think about it.
